2021 Grenache Mourvedre Syrah
This wine is inspired by the traditional blends of Southern Rhône wines like Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where growers learned centuries ago that these three grapes complement each other in the vineyard as much as they do in the glass. Grenache ripens reliably and brings bright fruit and approachability, Mourvèdre thrives in warmer conditions and ripens later, adding structure and savory character, and Syrah performs best in slightly cooler sites, contributing deeper color, aromatics, and a touch of spice.

We sourced the Grenache and Mourvèdre from Machado Creek Vineyard in the warmth of the Santa Clara Valley, which consistently gives ripe red fruit without becoming heavy, while the Syrah from Zayante Vineyard in the Mountains above Felton, a cooler site, brings freshness and peppery aromatics. Each variety was aged separately in barrel and later blended prior to bottling in May 2023, allowing to fine-tune the final wine for balance.

Stylistically it has more depth than a lighter red, and is softer and easier drinking than a bold red.

The wine has aromas and flavors of pomegranate, raspberry and cherry, followed by a black plum and a peppery spice on the finish. It’s the kind of wine that works just as well with dinner as it does with a glass on the couch. Pairing ideas we have are Manchego cheese, herb-roasted chicken and lamb burgers.
